Each season we select local gardening experts and designers, as well as our knowledgeable senior staff, to teach seminars & workshops in our popular gardening education series. Unless otherwise noted, seminars are free for Rewards Members (Workshop fees are additional), and $10 for non-members (membership is free!). Kids Club Make & Take Workshop: Create a Salad Bowl Planter (Edibowls)

Plant your own ‘Edibowl’ salad!  You can amaze your friends and family when you can make a salad from the plants you grew in your bowl!  We will decorate our pots with colorful designs and then plant them. Make & Take Workshop: Plant up Window Box Greens

Learn how to combine herbs and leafy greens to form a beautiful and functional planter. We’ll incorporate elements of companion planting and create a little ecosystem in a container.  Fee includes container, plants, and soil.  Fee: $60 for Rewards Member, $70 for Non-Members (Membership is free). Seminar: Learn to Care for Indoor Plants 101

Learn how to grow healthy and beautiful home & office plants. Our indoor plant gurus will teach you how to choose the best plant for your location, how to transplant, care for them, and basic trouble shooting tips. We’re excited to offer this class for the second time — we’re hoping to make it an annual tradition. Decorate a pumpkin with paint and Tillandsia (Air Plants), to create a fun holiday accent.  Join us!  Fee includes a small specialty pumpkin, paint, air plants, and glue. Kids Club Make & Take Workshop: Create a Bird Feeder

Birds seek more food this time of year, so it’s important that we help them eat (and it’s also fun to watch them play in the garden!We’ll make simple bird feeders with paper rolls or pine cones, peanut butter, and birdseed. (If your child has a peanut allergy, please let us know in advance so we can provide a nut-free alternative).

Seminar: How to Garden with Native Plants

We welcome Joan Pont of the California Native Plant Society – she’ll describe her personal journey and expertise learned from transforming her garden from ‘freeway plants’ to a surprisingly orderly assemblage of 150 different native plant species. Seminar: How to Find Your Garden Style: A talk based on Garden Design: A Book of Ideas by Heidi Howcroft

We are pleased to welcome author Heidi Howcroft.  She will walk us through simple garden design steps, from deciding what you want from your outdoor space, to assessing your plot, choosing a style, and then selecting the components. New class: Plant your own living Christmas Tree!  This is a fun decoration for your room, shelf, or mantel.  They can be moved/transplanted outdoors after the holidays.
