Each season we select local gardening experts and designers, as well as our knowledgeable senior staff, to teach seminars & workshops in our popular gardening education series. Unless otherwise noted, seminars are free for Rewards Members (Workshop fees are additional), and $10 for non-members (membership is free!). All participants receive a 10% off coupon for redemption at any of our locations. Please call ahead to the seminar location to register in advance. Attendance is limited.

Workshop: Create a Tillandsia Wreath

Join us and create a living wreath using Tillandsias (Air Plants) mounted on a 12” grape vine form. Your creation can be displayed indoors or out and can last for years. Make & Take Workshop: Introduction to Bonsai 101

This class was so popular this spring that we decided to bring it back again!  Join our knowledgeable staff for an informative bonsai Make & Take workshop. Our experts will guide you through basic planting and care techniques. You’ll create a beautiful 2″ planted bonsai to bring home and enjoy. Workshop fee includes 2” Bonsai pot, plant, soil, fertilizer. Fee: $20 for Rewards Members, $30 for Non-Members (Membership is free). Register in advance.

SEMINAR: EMILY MURPHY, AUTHOR OF GROW WHAT YOU LOVE

We are truly honored that Emily Murphy will share her gardening knowledge in our stores. Emily will discuss her approach to gardening and how garden-to-table growing can fit into busy, modern life with little time or effort. Walk-In: Knife Sharpening at Kentfield Sloat

Bring your dull knives to Knife Sharpening Day at Sloat Garden Center. Knife sharpener Will Karnofsky will put a razors edge on all your knives both old and new. Broken tips and chipped edges can usually be repaired and will come back better than ever. This event will take place in the parking lot located on Sir Francis Drake Blvd, behind our Kentfield store. Fee: $1/inch of blade.

SEMINAR: CLEAN THE AIR WITH HOUSEPLANTS

Did you know that adding plants inside your home or office can help purify the air?  Several studies have shown that houseplants are an effective tool for reducing the amount of airborne mold, airborne microbes, and compounds called Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOC’s). We will discuss which plants are best for air cleaning, as well as general houseplant care. Fee: Free for Rewards Members, $10 for Non-Members (Membership is free). Please register in advance.

This fun workshop is back by popular demand!  We’ll decorate pumpkins with succulents to create a fun centerpiece that can last through fall. Kids Club Make & Take Workshop: Create a Bird Feeder

Birds are looking for more food at this time of year. It’s important that we help them eat, but it’s also fun to watch them play around in the garden! We’ll be making simple bird feeders with paper rolls, peanut butter, and birdseed. (If your child has a peanut allergy, please let us know in advance so we can provide a nut-free alternative). Fee: Free for Rewards Members, $10 for Non-Members (Membership is free). Please register in advance.
