These colorful cousins of conventional cabbage are outstanding in the fall and winter garden. The leaves are tinged white, red, purple, mauve, and rose. Color is enhanced by cool and frosty weather. Kale has looser head with frilly leaf edges. Cabbage is denser with well-rounded leaves. In the garden, combine them with pansy, nemesia and viola. In the home, the leafy, colorful rosettes can be cut and used in your holiday table arrangement. They are stunning with other cut seasonal foliage, twigs or branches, and gourds. As a bonus, they are edible and look grand as a garnish on a plate or serving dish.
